Mrs. Cynthia Alexander DuBose

 Greenback Open House Teacher presentation

I am looking forward to teaching another outstanding group of students at Claudia Taylor Johnson High School.  I have been teaching US History and many other Social Studies classes at Johnson since it opened in the fall of 2008.  I am a proud member of the first faculty and believe we have some of the finest teachers in the state of Texas. I coached tennis the first few years that the school was open.  I was honored to be the 2011-12 Johnson High School Teacher of the Year.  I have worked with the College Board as a reader for the AP US History Exam.  In addition to my role as a History teacher, I am currently the Instructional Dean for the Social Studies Department.

I am originally from Edinburg, Texas in the Rio Grande Valley.  I graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with majors in English and History.  I attended graduate school at the University of Texas - Pan American. I began my teaching and tennis coaching career in the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo school district.  I began teaching at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD in 1996.  Prior to moving to San Antonio, I taught US History, AP Government and coached tennis for seven years at McAllen Memorial High School in McAllen.  While at McAllen ISD, I was named the District Technology Teacher of the Year in 2004-2005.  I was also the South Texas Tennis Coach of the year for several seasons.  I have two dogs. One is a German Shorthaired Pointer named Buster and the other is a Viszla named Lulu.  In the summer, I am the Head Counselor of a girls' camp in Tennessee.  I love sailing, golf, tennis and really enjoy training my dogs.

My goal as a teacher is to create an energetic social studies classroom that helps students connect history with current events and issues.  Students in my classes have performed well on standardized exams.  It is my hope that they left my class with enhanced critical thinking skills and a greater understanding of our nation and the world.  Many of my former students have been kind enough to contact me from universities across the nation. My former students have indicated that the knowledge and skills they gained in my class have been important to their success in college.

I hope you will feel free to contact me with any concerns you may have regarding my current classes or other issues related to the Social Studies department at Johnson High School.  My email is cdubos@neisd.net
