Ms. Ashley Reyes
Hello! My name is Ashley Reyes, and I am the Johnson High School Dance Director/Dance Teacher. My dance journey began at Camelias Dance Arts in Laredo, Texas when I was just two years old. Growing up, I trained in various dance genres such as jazz, hip-hop, and contemporary, constantly challenging myself to improve and innovate.
Competing across Texas, Las Vegas, and Orlando from a young age, I discovered my passion for performing and pushing the boundaries of what I could achieve in dance. My drill team journey began in the 6th grade when I joined the United Middle School Maverettes. During my time with the Maverettes, we competed in numerous competitions, including NDA Nationals. We were proud to be the first middle school team in Laredo to compete and win jackets. In high school, I was privileged to be part of the John B. Alexander Dazzlers, where I served as 2nd Lieutenant and had the opportunity to choreograph some truly memorable performances.
Outside of school, I trained at Dynamic Dance Studio under the guidance of Kimberly Acuna, where I joined the elite competition team. Here, I earned numerous regional and national awards, including a prestigious invitation to the Starbound National Dance Competition's New York City All-Star Convention.
Beyond competing, I found my passion for teaching dance. My approach to teaching emphasizes not only technical precision but also the joy and creativity that dance brings. I believe in nurturing each dancer's strengths while fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone feels empowered to express themselves through movement.
Upon graduating high school, I attended Texas State University, where I had the privilege of studying under esteemed professionals like Megan Moss, Leanne Smith, and Michelle Nance. Their guidance allowed me to deepen my understanding of dance theory, technique, and pedagogy. During my time at Texas State, I was fortunate enough to perform in several productions with pieces choreographed by Megan Moss, Naomi Alvarado, and Melena West. These experiences enriched my artistic perspective and skills.
Now, as the new Dance Director at Johnson High School, I am thrilled to bring my experience and passion for dance to this vibrant community. I look forward to working with students, parents, and fellow directors to create a space where every dancer can grow, learn, and shine.
