I am excited to begin my 8th year teaching US History! My background as a social studies teacher is built on my expertise in differentiating to different students' needs/learning styles. I am APUSH certified and ESL certified in addition to my social studies certification. My background as former law enforcement also helps me make our content as relevant as possible for our scholars.
As I teach US History 1877-Present Day I am going to align as closely as possible to our state standards:
In teaching a course that is a graduation requirement and has a STAAR test at the end of course, I will do everything in my power to help our scholars be successful. I also firmly believe that it is bad teaching pedagogy to allow my students to know what my personal beliefs and opinions are, especially when it comes to some of the more controversial topics we cover in US History. I will always provide two or more perspectives on issues to help our students learn to see things from other people's perspectives in order to help them become responsible citizens of our country.
