Mrs. Megan Ashford

Hello! My name is Megan Ashford, and I am excited to be teaching dance at Johnson High School as the Pep Squad Director and Assistant Dance Director. I am originally from Houston, Texas, and graduated from Texas State University with my Bachelor's in Dance Education. I have been dancing for a total of 21 years with a broad background in the studio, competition, drill team, and collegiate training. I started dancing at Athletistry Performing Arts Center in Cypress, Texas. While there, I was on the competition team for 9 years and competed in several states. I attended Cypress Falls High School and was a member of the Skydancer Drill Team where I served as Junior Lieutenant my junior year and 1st Lieutenant my senior year. After high school, I attended Trinity Valley Community College and was a part of the TVCC Cardette Dance Team. While on the team, I was selected to be on the TVCC Showgirl Competition Team and attended several university-level competitions, including UNT and UDA in Las Vegas, Nevada. After my first year at TVCC, I realized my passion for teaching dance and transferred to Texas State University, where I was accepted into the top fine arts program at Texas State. I took part in several BFA dance shows, and senior Showcases, and performed with the Texas State Opera Program. I was a part of several organizations, such as the Delta Gamma Sorority where I served as Director of Chapter Archives, The National Society for Leadership, CIMTEYA Dance Company, and graduated Magna Cum Laude. After graduation, I was given the chance to teach and be the director at Fox Tech High School in San Antonio. Last year I was granted the opportunity to teach dance at Tejeda Middle School and could not have asked for a more positive year. I am thrilled to be at Johnson this year and get to know the community! for My goal in teaching is to create a place where students feel free to express themselves as an artist and explore movement in new ways. I have so many new ideas to grow the dance program while still maintaining all the traditions and culture that make this program inspiring to students. I am eager and ready to spread the school spirit and share my passion for dancing with every student that walks through my door! GO JAGS!
