The Algebra II GT Honors course is essential for anyone who plans to take the Advance Placement Calculus Test and/or who plans a formal education after high school.  The foundations of this course focus on seven functions (linear, absolute value, quadratic, square root, exponential, logarithmic, & rational), conic sections and an introduction to trigonometry.  Significant elements of the functions include parent graphs, domain & range, parameter changes and application problems.  This course teaches logic skills and problem solving.  You will learn to collect data from real-life experiences, then organize and analyze the data in an algebraic manner.   I have very high expectations of my students enrolled in Algebra II GT Honors.

Supplies to bring EVERY CLASS:

  • A composition/spiral notebook
  • A binder/folder to store papers
  • Notebook paper
  • Pencils & erasers; colored pencils
  • A Graphing calculator is highly recommended. (TI-nspire cx)

Grading Procedures:   Grades are based on the number of points you earn and are weighted.

Your Quarter grade will be:

  • 5% - Daily Work
  • 35% - Quizzes
  • 60% - Tests

Your Semester grade will be:

  • 40% - Quarter 1
  • 40% - Quarter 2
  • 20% - Final Exam

Daily Assignments: This includes daily warm-ups, class activities and homework.  You can expect homework almost every night.  You are responsible for checking your own homework and asking questions, if you have any.  We will grade homework during class.  Your daily work grade is based on both effort and accuracy.  You must show all work for credit.

Unit Tests & Quizzes: Unit Tests will be given approximately every 2 - 3 weeks on EVEN CALENDAR DAYS.  You will always be notified of unit tests in advance.  You may or may not be notified of quizzes in advance.  There will be at least one quiz for each unit (with a goal of two - three per unit).

Class Policy:

  1. Expectations:  (the five P’s):  I expect every student to Participate (100%), to be Prompt (ready to work when the bell rings), to be Polite (respectful and supportive of classmates and teachers), to be Prepared (have supplies and assignments), and to be Productive (work hard, stay on-task, ask questions, and help others).

  1. Late and Make-up Work: GOOD ATTENDANCE IS ESSENTIAL FOR SUCCESS!

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to collect your assignments.  According to district policy, if you are out of class on school business or you have an excused absence, you will have the same number of class periods that you missed to make up the assigned work without penalty.  If the absence is unexcused, the work will be considered late.  In accordance with district policy, a 20% deduction from the total grade earned will be taken for late assignments.  Assignments may be turned in late until the unit assessment.  If late work happens often, I will be emailing home.  If you miss a quiz or a test, you need to be prepared to take the assessment upon return to class. Students should make prior arrangements with me for making up missed work when the absence can be anticipated, e.g., a dental appointment, court appearance or appointment, approved school-related activities, etc.

  1. Retakes: You may retake tests to improve a grade of 69% or below.  In order to retake tests, you must first submit test corrections during tutoring, then a retest will be scheduled.  If you score higher on a retake than the original test, you will receive the retake grade up to a max of 70%.  If you score lower on the retake, the retake grade will be discarded.  ALL RETAKES MUST BE COMPLETED BY THE DEADLINE GIVEN!  THIS DEADLINE WILL BE WRITTEN ON THE GRADED TEST AND IN SKYWARD UNDER COMMENTS NEXT TO THE TEST GRADE. You cannot retake quizzes.  I will drop the lowest quiz grade at the end of the nine week grading period.

  1. Tutoring:  Help is always available.  You may come in for tutoring on the days listed above.  If you need math help and I am unavailable, you can also go to any of the other Algebra 2 Honors teachers.

  1. Honesty Policy:  All quizzes, tests, and projects (unless otherwise instructed by me) are to be completed individually.  Any student caught copying/cheating or using an unapproved electronic device during an assessment will receive a zero for that assessment.  It is okay to work with other students on the practice assignments (classwork & homework) as long as each student is actively working on each of the assigned problems.

**All School Policies & Consequences will be enforced.  See your student handbook for more details.

I am looking forward to a terrific year!
