Wood students lead board meeting

Wood students in board room

Two outstanding students took to the podium in front of the North East ISD Board of Trustees on Monday evening. They helped start and set the tone for the November regular board meeting by reciting the invocation and pledge to the U.S. and Texas flags in front of District leadership and guests.

They exemplify the well-rounded students our District fosters at all our campuses, and they were introduced by their Principal Brad Henze of Wood Middle School.

Mikel Byles is an eighth-grade honor student at Wood. He is a multisport athlete, playing football, basketball, and will run track in the spring.  He is also part of the Student 2 Student program, on the robotics team, and is part of the FFA program.  He was joined that evening by his parents Myron and LaShae Byles.

Eighth-grade honor student, Natalie Autenrieth, is an all sport athlete playing volleyball, basketball, track, cross country, soccer and golf at Wood. She is a member of the school dance team, PALS and AVID. She was joined that evening by her parents Brian and Michelle Autenrieth.

Perfect Scores Recognized

Arthur MillerAvaneesh Pal

Two North East ISD students accomplished an amazing feat that very few have achieved and were recognized by the Board of Trustees.

Earlier this year, Johnson High School senior Arthur Miller earned a perfect SAT score of 1600, and Reagan High School senior Avaneesh Pal earned a perfect ACT score of 36.

Both are two top achieving students on their campuses. Miller is an AP Scholar with Distinction and is active in football and wrestling. Pal is very active in JROTC where he serves as Battalion Logistics Officer, commander of the STEM team, executive officer of the Striker Air Rifle Marksmanship team, and is Bravo Team Leader of the Viper Raider team.

Joining in the recognition that evening were their families and principals, Gary Comalander and Dr. Charles Reininger.

Music excellence in eduction gets national nod

Matthew Trevino at board meeting

Roan Forest Elementary School music teacher Matthew Trevino was recognized by trustees on Monday evening for his efforts in the classroom that recently earned him the Country Music Association (CMA) Foundation Teachers of Excellence award. He flew to Nashville, TN to accept his award in September.

Trevino has been with the District for nine years. He provides his students with countless opportunities to perform and collaborate with other amazing musicians. His choir and percussion students perform annually at San Antonio Spurs games, at the Tobin Center for the Arts, and at statewide music conferences.
