Johnson Jaguar Golf Tryouts

Students wishing to try out for the Johnson High School Golf Team must follow the following steps:

1. Have a current physical and medical history on file with NEISD, or bring one to the coaching staff on the first day of tryouts 
2. Complete the online participation form for NEISD Athletics 
3. Contact Coach Ramos or Coach Coleman and inform them of desire to try out

Any student at Johnson who meets the eligibility requirements (age, credits earned, and attendance verification) is eligible to try out.  Below are some suggested guidelines for tryouts.

• The first criteria in the tryout will be a scoring component.  Students who are golf course ready will be invited to a 9 hole tryout during the first two weeks of school.  A helpful guide is that freshmen should be able to shoot 50 or better on 9 holes, sophomores should be able to shoot 41 or lower, juniors should be able shoot 40 or better, and seniors should be able to shoot 38 or better.  The yardage played for the 9 hole tryout will be approximately 3400 yards for boys and 2700 yards for girls. The scoring criteria is required for consideration it is not a guarantee into the program. Please note that being invited to the 9 hole tryout (or not being invited) is not a clear indicator of whether or not a student will make the team.
• In addition to scoring ability, a prospective golfer will be evaluated on other criteria, including basic fundamentals and swing mechanics, knowledge of golf rules and etiquette, and course management techniques as well as attitude, coachability and competitiveness as well as skill level, prior experience, academic success, and character.

Students will be notified of such decisions and can then plan accordingly.
