Miss Amanda Tillman

Welcome to English IV Dual Credit, English IV AP, and English IV GT!

I'm incredibly excited to be in my second year here at our lovely Madison HS!

I have a background with a Bachelor's in Arts and Masters in Arts, both with a focused major in English Literature and Language at St. Mary's University (as well as a History Minor). I taught abroad in Seoul, South Korea doing English instruction in all subjects across a ten-year student range. My first five years teaching in America were in Northside at John Jay HS/Science and Engineering Academy. I have taught all ages, co-teach Special Education, Pre-AP, AP, GT, and AP/Dual Enrollment (both for Composition 1301/1303 and for 2nd Year American/British/World Lit).

In the past, I've sat on the Principals Advisory Board and Guiding Coalition for my school. I've run the extracurricular groups for GRACE (Girls Reaching for Academics, Confidence, and Excellence), Chick-fil-A Leader Academy, the Book Club (in tandem with the school librarian at both High Schools), and the D&D Club. I have been involved with Library Palooza, Texas Teen Book Festival, and AFT First Book.

This year I completed a two-month-long course (will extend through this whole school year) and became a fellow of the The Compassionate Institute through San Antonio's First Annual Compassionate Institute, and I'm so excited to be bringing all these skills into our interactions and how we look at the works in this classroom/the current contexts of the world all around us.
