Miss Amanda Tillman

Welcome to 1301/1302 Composition, AP Literature & Compostion, and English IV GT!

I'm incredibly excited to be in my 3rd year here at our lovely Madison HS!

I have a background with a Bachelor's in Arts and Masters in Arts, both with a focused major in English Literature and Language at St. Mary's University (as well as a History Minor). I taught abroad in Seoul, South Korea doing English instruction in all subjects across a ten-year student range. My first five years teaching in America were in Northside at John Jay HS/Science and Engineering Academy. I have taught all ages, co-teach Special Education, Pre-AP, AP, GT, and AP/Dual Enrollment (both for Composition 1301/1303 and for 2nd Year American/British/World Lit).

In the past, I've sat on the Principals Advisory Board and Guiding Coalition for my school. I've run the extracurricular groups for GRACE (Girls Reaching for Academics, Confidence, and Excellence), Chick-fil-A Leader Academy, the Book Club, and the D&D Club. I have been involved with Library Palooza, Texas Teen Book Festival, and AFT First Book

In 2019-2020, I completed a year-long course as a fellow of The Compassionate Institute through San Antonio's First Annual Compassionate Institute. In 2020-2021, I attended the National Council of Teachers of English Conference as the representative for the Madison English Department. This year I am a participant in a year-long course study with National Math and Science Initiative focused on AP Literature. I, also, co-sponsor the Madison Book Club (with the Librarian, Mrs. Wright), and co-sponsor the EF Tours Senior Post-Graduation International Trip (with Mrs. Wileford).
