Dr. Tyler Barrett

I am Tyler Barrett and I teach English as a Second Language (ESL). I have a PhD in Education (Specialization: Second Language Teaching) from University of Calgary, an MA in Applied Linguistics from University of Birmingham, and a BA in English from University of California, Santa Cruz.

Beginning in 2006, I taught English in public schools in Japan for five years. From 2011 until 2012, I taught M.Ed. courses and undergraduate courses at University of Calgary, and from 2014 until 2020, I taught ESL courses at National Cryptologic University. Currently, I am an Adjunct Professor in the Division of Online and Professional Studies at California Baptist University and an Adjunct Instructor in the Division of Continuing Education Online at University of California, Irvine.

I have been researching language learning since 2008. I have published studies about language learning and linguistics in various academic journals. I am the co-editor of the books "Critical Inquiries in the Sociolinguistics of Globalization" and "Transcultural Flows of English and Education in Asian Contexts," and the author of the book "A Sociolinguistic View of A Japanese Ethnic Church Community."

I enjoy long distance running and playing golf.

I feel it is a privilege to work with students at Madison High School and I look forward to helping them achieve their academic and personal goals.
