Mr. David Holmes
Welcome, Mavericks, to the Madison High School 2022-23 school year!
I'm David Holmes. I was born and raised in Milford, Massachusetts, which is about a half-hour away from Boston. I struggled and barely graduated from Milford High School way back in 1984 and briefly went to Worcester State College before joining the US Air Force in 1987. For 25 years, I had the adventure of a lifetime until I retired in 2012. In the 1990s, I was stationed in San Antonio and fell in love with it. However, the military forces you to move ... so move I did.
I am fortunate to have lived in South Korea, Germany, England, Greenland and Alaska. I deployed to Saudi Arabia, France and Kuwait and have visited countless other countries. When it came time to retire, I headed back to SATX and became a teacher!
I’ll teach World Geography with Mr. Jordan. This is my favorite subject to teach because I’ve personally seen a lot of this beautiful planet and my goal is to see it all!. I hope my experience, my stories and my enthusiasm for learning make this a fun, challenging and rewarding course for you!
I live with my daughters, Veronika and Tara. I enjoy rock and roll, jazz, concerts, reading, and working out. My passion is travel, and I usually plan my vacations around Pearl Jam tours.
I believe that parents are the child's first and primary teacher. I've also found that students perform much better when their teacher has consistent, open and direct communication with parents and/or guardians. Therefore, you can expect to hear from me quite often. I also prioritize being organized and clear in expectations; so, all materials and assignments will be posted in Google Classroom immediately. If your child is absent or has late work, there is no reason why they cannot access their materials. Lastly, grades will be in as quickly as possible - I do not wait to enter grades as they are a form of communication. There will be times when teachers are not allowed to update Skyward ... outside of that, what you see on Skyward should be accurate and up to date.
