During the Explore phase of the Guided Inquiry process, students will spend time skimming and scanning resources to find interesting pictures or ideas. This phase important because students continue to build background information in preparation to formulating research questions.
Notes:
- Use print and electronic sources and allow students to choose what interests them most.
- Ask students to look for at least one piece of information they find interesting and would like to share.
- Students may jot down a brief note about the interesting information on a post-it note.
- To save time when sharing interesting pictures and ideas, divide the class in half and allow one group to share with the teacher and the other with the librarian.
