Student in World Language class
  • Language and communication are at the heart of the human experience.  To this end, being able to communicate in more than one language not only makes an individual more culturally aware but also makes them more marketable and increases their earning potential.  Those who have second language proficiency can expect to earn 10-15% more than their monolingual counterparts.  In addition to monetary rewards, recent studies recognize that the benefits of having a "bilingual" brain include improved attention, intelligence, and better verbal and spatial abilities.  And, for those who study a world language for four or more years, SAT and ACT scores improve as well.

The NEISD World Language program includes:

    • American Sign Language
    • French
    • German
    • Japanese
    • Latin
    • Spanish
    • Mandarin Chinese at Lee and Reagan High Schools
    • Spanish at all fourteen middle schools.

Levels I – IV are offered in all languages at all high schools with opportunities for PreAP and AP courses in all languages other than American Sign Language.  Additional opportunities for native/heritage speakers as well as AP Spanish Literature exist for Spanish.  Check your campus for specific details.
