NEISD senior provides a safe space for students in need
There’s a new and impressive bus stop in the bus loop at MacArthur High School. The 10-foot by 12-foot enclosure protects Special Education students from the elements while they wait for the bus. It was a need Madison High School senior Nathan Montano noticed when visiting his mother, who works at MacArthur.
“I wanted to help them out in some way, so I decided to build a bus stop for them. It would keep them out of the sun, the rain and every other kinds of Texas weather. I love helping them.”
Montano decided helping those students would be the best way to earn his Eagle Scout rank. So, after some fundraising and approval, Nathan spent two weekends digging a hole, pouring concrete and putting together the massive structure where students can sit and wait for their bus.
Now that he’s finished his Eagle Scout project, he’s looking forward to graduation, where he will continue working toward a medical degree and help others in a different way. He’s currently enrolled in the Medical Professions Academy at North East ISD’s Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC), which will give him a head start on his dream career.
