Hanging out with Henderson

henderson and Eli

Incoming Madison High School freshman Eli Warren isn’t taking time off this summer, he’s hanging out with Henderson.

Henderson is the lamb he is raising as part of the Agriscience Magnet Program (AMP) at Madison.

Even though school doesn’t start until August 14, Eli is at AMP every day taking care of Henderson. He makes sure Henderson is fed and clean, that his stall is nice and tidy, and that the two of them spend quality time together.

“My favorite part is bonding with Henderson and seeing his improvement. It’s cool to see the accomplishment.”

Henderson has to be ready for a show in October, so Eli is putting in the work now to make sure Henderson performs well and looks his best.

Eli still has high school ahead of him, but this time with Henderson is really giving him perspective and excitement for a future career with livestock.

“It’s a lot of time, but it’s very worth it. I am enjoying my time here, and I feel like I am benefiting a lot by it.”

AMP offers students six pathways of student with more than 25 agricultural courses. The pathways include Agribusiness, Applied Agricultural Engineering, Animal Science, Environmental and Natural Resources, Food Science and Plant Science. Students also have the opportunity to earn more than 20 college credits depending on their pathway.
