Welcome to English II!  This class will focus on practical instruction in the principles and methods of clear and effective writing, and in analyzing and evaluating poetry, essays, fiction, and nonfiction.   We will spend time in the writing process, including analyzing audience and purpose, prewriting, planning, drafting, revising, and editing, so that students become more comfortable and confident writers who express their ideas and opinions clearly and effectively.  Writing well, thinking critically, and analyzing and synthesizing texts are essential skills for college and career success, but also for life as an active citizen in our society.  I hope that as your view of the world expands through the written word, you develop a more critical eye toward it.
