Exceptional Tejeda students lead January board meeting

Two exceptional Tejeda Middle School students took part in the regularly scheduled meeting of the North East ISD Board of Trustees on Monday, Jan. 8. 

Principal Martha Reyes introduced the students selected to provide the invocation and pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags.

Eighth grader Maria Goncalves Falck Palagi gave the invocation

Maria is President of National Junior Honor Society, a member of the Student Council and the Young Historians club. She’s also one of the PALS on campus and proudly represents Tejeda as “Timber” the school mascot. Maria has spent three years on the A Honor Roll and three years in band while serving on the band council. She also plays basketball, track and soccer, made the 7th and 8th grade Region Band, earned the 2022 Silver Star Award winner for leadership, and was the 2021 Social Studies & Math Honors Department Award winner.  

Maria was joined at the meeting by her parents Ricardo and Ana Claudia Palagi, her grandmother Sonia, her godmother, Juliana and cousin, Carolina. 

Eighth grader Brooklyne Watne recited the pledges of allegiance to the U.S. and Texas flags. 

Brooklyn has been active in Student Council for the past three years and now serves as President. She’s part of the Tejeda choir, theater, and dance and also plays volleyball and basketball. She’s a theater officer, serves on the choir council and has maintained an A Honor Roll for the past three years. Brooklyn also earned the 2022 Silver Star Award winner for citizenship and was the 2022 English Department award winner. 

Her parents, Nick and Anna Watne, joined her at the meeting.
