Degrees and Certifications:
University of North Texas BBA 1994 Core Subjects 4-8 ESL Supplemental 4-8
My name is Shannon West and this is my sixth year as a full-time teacher. After many years of substitute teaching, and an additional year of coursework (I originally earned a BBA in Human Resources), I earned my certification in the Spring of 2017. I am thrilled to be teaching 6th grade Science here at Frank Tejeda Middle School!
I have 3 daughters who have grown up in NEISD. Bethany is a junior at International School of the Americas (ISA) after completing 9 years of dual language education at Steubing Ranch ES and Bradley MS. Anna was a Tejeda Timberwolf and is now attending MY alma mater, the University of North Texas. GO MEAN GREEN! Katie graduated from Emory University and is now living in Baltimore, Maryland. All 3 of my girls attended Steubing Ranch Elementary - love our Spurs family AND the International School of the Americas - love our Globie family! We are extremely grateful for the opportunities NEISD has provided!
San Antonio has been our home for 20+ years. Although I grew up in the Midwest, and went to high school and college in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, I can’t imagine living anywhere else. We love road trips whenever we can get out of town - I have visited 42 of the 50 states! I am a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan and love cheering for the Spurs. Deep water aerobics is my favorite exercise, and I enjoy long walks at city parks (Hardberger, Eisenhower and Comanche Lookout are my faves). Coffee makes me happy. Chocolate makes me happier.
Fun fact: I am a fourth generation teacher! My mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother were all educators and I am proud to follow in their footsteps.
