Rough Riders are ready to drive smart behind the wheel

Roosevelt students participate in the 2024 Safe Driving Event

Our Roosevelt High School Rough Riders are ready to drive smart and stay safe behind the wheel!

Several booths, vendors and displays were available in the courtyard and cafeteria showcasing the dangers of driving impaired today. Many students also signed a safe driving pledge.

The choice not to text and drive can save lives. Sarah Wilson, Roosevelt PTSA 1st VP, says the Roosevelt PTSA Safe Driving Event is meant to help keep that top-of-mind for our teens.

“Awareness is so important for our teen drivers,” said Wilson. “We love engaging with our students and getting them involved. We’re here to help every child reach their potential. I want to help all of our kids, and that’s what the PTA does.”

There were many educational booths on hand, but one in particular was a hit. Students had the chance to wear special goggles that mimicked the effects of alcohol as they attempted to walk in a straight line with San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) officers walking them through the dangers of driving impaired.

Thank you to the Roosevelt PTSA and everyone who participated in driving home this important message.
