SETA is headed to space!

Later this year, Mission 18 will carry experiments to the International Space Station (ISS). A group of Space and Engineering Technologies Academy (SETA) students created one of those experiments.

Seta students next to bannerSETA juniors and seniors Solongel Bass, Tina Tse, Amanda Brake and Bryan Godos want to know how microgravity will affect Chia seed growth. So, they will be running a control experiment here on Earth, while astronauts on the ISS will test those effects with an experiment designed and created by the students. Bass, Tse, Brake and Godos are responsible for assembling the experiment for the astronauts, following precise weight and size specifications.

Judges chose the SETA students’ experiment during a nationwide experiment search as part of the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program.

This is just one of the fantastic opportunities students in our new SETA magnet school program are taking advantage of during the program’s first year. SETA is a curiosity-driven, cohesive sixth through twelfth-grade program designed for students interested in careers in the aerospace industry. North East ISD is only the second school district in the country to formally sign a Space Act Agreement with NASA, giving our students access to a NASA-certified Instructional Coach.

Applications are now open to SETA and all NEISD magnet school programs.

Apply now with the window closing on Feb. 5th.
