Two great community members join NEISD's Wall of Heroes

Recently, two families gathered at North East ISD’s Heroes Stadium to celebrate one of the highest honors NEISD bestows onto members of this community.

The celebration held on Oct. 22 recognized Mike Bailey and Reagan Greer as the newest inductees to the NEISD Wall of Heroes.

Heroes Stadium received its name to honor and praise members of the District and community who made a positive impact in the lives of current and future generations. Every two years, NEISD adds a new community member to the Wall of Heroes. This year, two people received the special honor.

Bailey is a Churchill High School graduate who taught Texas History at Bradley Middle School for 25 years before retiring from the classroom. During that time, he won many educator awards and acknowledgements including H-E-B’s Excellence in Education Lifetime Achievement Award and the Texas Humanities Award. Since 1999, he has worked daily on establishing and growing the Mills Spring Cabin for thousands of students and guests. He brings Texas History to life on the complex that includes an authentic 1800s cabin, general store, school house, trading post and museum. His passion and dedication built the complex log by log.

Bailey was joined that evening by his wife Eirene, his mother who he describes as his hero, and many other family members, friends and colleagues.

Receiving the honor posthumously, Greer was also a Churchill graduate. Aside from being a student leader when he was school, he was also a dedicated parent volunteer when his children attended NEISD schools. He served as president of the band booster club, member of the sports association and served on NEISD’s District Education Improvement Committee. He was also instrumental in planning Churchill’s 50th anniversary celebration. He served the greater community in many roles including Justice of the Peace for Precinct 3 and Bexar County District Clerk. He was a successful businessman and was very active in giving back to the community.

Greer’s children Ryan, Austin and Elizabeth Greer were on hand to unveil the plaque and speak on their father’s behalf. Many of their family and friends were in attendance as well.

After the ceremony and reception, both inductees were recognized on the football field before the Churchill vs MacArthur football game during the honorary coin toss.
