Finding your best chapter at NEISD

Stephanie Wilson holds NEISD way sign with text

Stephanie Wilson’s love of reading started in two places: at home, with her mother, and at El Dorado Elementary School, with her fifth grade teacher Mrs. Wilson.

“I remember my mom would wake up earlier than me and read before the day started,” said Stephanie. “I asked her to wake me up too so we could sit together and read. That was my foundation for loving books.”

The next step in the foundation started when she was able to select the classroom chapter book in Mrs. Wilson’s class. She opted for Santa Paws, and it’s a moment she still remembers fondly.

“I loved that she deferred to me, and I got to choose a book for the whole class to read. Story time was magical with her. That was my favorite part of the day.”

Her love of all things books and reading continued through El Dorado, Wood Middle School and Madison High School, where the school library remained a constant in her life.

“I have memories in high school of going in the library and spending time in the stacks at Madison, sitting on the floor in the non-fictions section reading. Those were wonderful moments.”

As the Librarian at Bradley Middle School, she gets to enjoy her favorite part of the day as soon as she steps foot in the library. Her students get to enjoy it with her, whether they’re checking out books or working on a science unit about weather patterns.

The library is a one-stop-shop for knowledge, adventure and support – and thanks to librarians like Stephanie Wilson, all are welcome inside.

April is School Library Month. We want to recognize all the NEISD librarians who work so hard to support our campuses and students #theNEISDway.
