Happy birthday Mill Springs Cabin

More than 20 years after it opened, the Mill Springs Cabin at Bradley Middle School is thriving. It's also expanding. An official ribbon cutting was held for the Delgado Saddle Shop and K-BUC Radio Station on Friday night as students, families and community members celebrated the cabin's 200th birthday.

"We wanted to be able to open it to the community," said Michael Bailey, Mill Springs Cabin Curator and former Bradley teacher. "That was our main goal. We wanted former students to come back and say they were part of this program and that they learned about the great state of Texas here on campus at Bradley Middle School at the Mill Springs Cabin."

Every year, Bradley seventh graders become Texas history experts and are docents for the cabin, general store, school house, trading post and museum. The K-BUC Radio Station pays tribute to the many great Texas songwriters and singers. The Delgado Saddle Shop is named after Don Delgado, a North East ISD parent who assisted Bailey in constructing much of the complex.

"It's honestly amazing," said former Bradley student Jacob Delgado. "Especially to think how this all spawned from one man's dedication to teaching about history."
