The many perks of working in NEISD kitchens

North East ISD's dedicated cafeteria staff and School Nutrition Services team work tirelessly to serve more than 50,000 meals daily to our students and staff. National School Lunch Week is a chance to highlight the crucial role workers like Joanne Lyons play in shaping the lives of our students.

Joanne joined the School Nutrition Services team nearly 20 years ago because the flexible schedule fit perfectly into her family’s routine.

“I started because I have four kids and you just can’t beat the hours in this job. I wish more people would give it a chance and try this job out. I don’t think people realize how fun it can be and the hours are great.”

Over nearly two decades at NEISD, Joanne has served our elementary, middle and high school students. Today, she’s the Cafeteria Manager at Wood Middle School and is proud to have worked her way up through our Manager in Training Program.

Her favorite part of the job is serving our students meals that taste as appetizing as they look.

“I like seeing the kids when they get excited about what’s on the menu. I love the enchiladas of course. I think everybody does. The new chicken pepperoni pasta is really good, and I really like the hamburgers from the grill.”

Join us in saying thank you #theNEISDway during National School Lunch Week, Oct. 10 – 14.
