I knew I wanted to be a teacher at a very young age! I attended seven elementary schools, three high schools, and one college, Kent State University, where I earned my teaching degree. I lived and taught in Ohio when my husband and I were married! We welcomed a baby girl into our family in 2003- the same year I earned a Master's in the Art of Teaching (Curriculum & Instruction). My husband's work brought us to Texas in 2006 and I am so happy to have worked at John H. Wood Middle School since the 2007-2008 school year! I was the Instructional Coach for Science for six years and the Instructional Coach for Math for one year. I loved this position because I was able to see our students grow in both contents! My "spare time" is usually spent with my family and friends! I love football, especially college, but am a Cleveland Browns fan through and through! I look forward to meeting you this year as I now serve as Academic Dean of Instruction! Let's go Wranglers!

Dr. Jessica Berry
Hi, My name is Dr. Jessica Berry!
I am thrilled to join the Wood Middle School team as assistant principal. After being in Houston for over ten years, I decided to move back to San Antonio. While living in Houston, I was an elementary school teacher, followed by an assistant principal, and for the last three years, I served as an elementary principal. During my time as a campus administrator, I have had the opportunity to increase the rigor of the campus curriculum through the PLC process.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Texas at San Antonio, my master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of St. Thomas, and my doctoral degree in ethical leadership from the University of St. Thomas in May of 2023.

Hello Wood Wranglers.
It is with great honor that I serve as the assistant principal of Wood Middle School. I will always push our campus community to Be Better in everything that we do.
I was born in Hillsboro, Tx but my dad is military so we traveled the world until he retired my junior year of high school. I am a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio where I received my bachelor’s degree and my masters in Educational Leadership through the NEISD/ UTSA Cohort. I began my journey at Wood as a student teacher in the spring of 2019 and became part of the teaching staff that fall. I have taught 7th grade math, 8th grade math, 7th Honors math and Algebra 1. I was the 2023-2024 Trinity Award for Excellence in Teaching recipient for our campus. I was also a part of the coaching staff; coaching volleyball, basketball and track.
My goal is to continue to building positive and meaningful relationships with each and every one of you. I am excited to collaborate with you to continue to educate confident independent thinkers to be successful beyond these four walls of our campus. I believe that building positive relationships and two-way communication are the core to a successful campus. I value the team work between the students, teachers, families and community to help grow our students academically, socially and emotionally. As a team, we will continue to grow as a campus and a community. I am excited to see what we accomplish this year.
Wood is my home, and I look forward to continuing to serve our staff, students, families, and community in my new role. I want to thank all of you for your continued support and shaping me into the leader I am becoming. I strive to empower our students and staff to chase their dreams and reach their goals as they have empowered me.
I look forward to the new memories that we will create to continue to #BeBetter.
