Amazon delivers supplies and smiles to Wood

package

A blue Amazon Prime delivery truck pulled through the bus loop at Wood Middle School Wednesday, Aug. 17, filled with school supplies.

There were bags full of pens, crayons, erasers and hand sanitizer.

Amazon also made sure to include some things for the teachers, too; one of those bags was filled with coffee pods!

“This is an amazing thing for our campus,” said Wood Principal Brad Henze. “Everything that was donated will go directly to our students who are in need. We also have some stuff that will go straight to our teachers to support everything they do in their classrooms.”

After they emptied the truck, an Amazon area manager pulled out a massive $1,000 check signed by Amazon owner Jeff Bezos.

The money will go toward Wood’s new sensory room.

The room will be filled with a variety of equipment that provides students with special needs a place to calm and focus themselves so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with others.

“We’ve been over the moon since they contacted us,” said Wood Family Specialist Alicia Delgado. “We are working really hard for our students, and this sensory room will benefit our entire campus.”

As a Family Specialist, Alicia works with community partners, like Amazon, to support North East ISD students and families with all sorts of needs. Part of today’s donations included toothbrushes, deodorant and laundry detergent to support student needs outside the classroom.

“It’s great to see how excited these kids are and the teachers benefiting from it,” said Amazon Area Manager Jamie Evans. “It’s neat to see the end result.”

“Their generosity has been amazing,” said Henze. “They have just gone above and beyond anything I could have imagined. Our students and staff are so thankful.”

Thank you, Amazon, for supporting our students and staff #theNEISDway.
