Mr. Ismael Borrego

This is Mr. Borrego’s first year serving as the orchestra director at "Tex" Hill MS. He is incredibly excited to join the wonderful faculty and looks forward to serving the Hill MS community by helping students cultivate a passion for music. As a performer, Mr. Borrego has served as a section violinist with the Laredo Philharmonic, Corpus Christi Symphony, Victoria Symphony, Symphony of the Hills, and the Mid-Texas Symphony.  Other engagements have included performances with touring ensembles such as the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses, and performances featuring artists such as Placido Domingo, Wynonna Judd, and Wilson Phillips. He has also contributed in recording repertoire for string orchestra for Keiser Southern Music Publishing. He is currently a member of the San Antonio Sinfonietta, the Mozart Festival Orchestra, and is a substitute violinist with the San Antonio Symphony.

Prior to working as an orchestra director, Mr. Borrego maintained a private violin and viola studio where he taught students of all ages. His passion for teaching young musicians inspired his desire to pursue a career in music education. Before joining the Johnson HS cluster, Mr. Borrego taught orchestra in Northside ISD. As an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association, he has served as an adjudicator for the Region 29 middle school and high school orchestras as well as the TMEA All-State orchestras. He is also an active member of the Texas Orchestra Directors Association.

Mr. Borrego holds a degree in music performance from the University of Texas at San Antonio with an additional accreditation in K-12 music education.  He hopes to inspire his students with a life-long love and appreciation for music and equip them with the tools necessary to excel beyond their time at "Tex" Hill.
