Mr. Ismael Borrego

     Mr. Borrego is excited to join the Lopez Middle School Orchestra program as the new assistant director. Previously, he was the orchestra director at Tex Hill MS for six years and prior to working in NEISD, he directed the orchestra program at Pat Neff MS in Northside ISD. He graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance and has an additional accreditation in K-12 music education.

     As a performer, Mr. Borrego has served as a section violinist with the Laredo Philharmonic, Corpus Christi Symphony, Victoria Symphony, Mid-Texas Symphony, San Antonio Sinfonietta, the Mozart Festival Orchestra, and has served as a substitute violinist with the San Antonio Symphony, and San Antonio Philharmonic. Other musical engagements have included performances with touring ensembles such as the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, The Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses, and performances featuring artists such as Placido Domingo, Wynonna Judd, and Wilson Phillips. He has also recorded string orchestra literature for Keiser Southern Music Publishing.

     In addition to teaching in the classroom, Mr. Borrego maintains a successful private violin studio where his students have won placements in the TMEA All-Region Orchestras, TMEA All-State Sinfonietta, TMEA All-State Symphony Orchestra, and the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America. As an active member of the Texas Music Educators Association, he frequently serves as an adjudicator for the TMEA All-Region and TMEA All-State Orchestras. He is also an active member of the Texas Orchestra Directors Association. He hopes to inspire his students with a life-long love for music and equip them with the tools necessary to excel beyond their time in the Lopez Orchestra program.
