Mr. Daniel Ortiz

Dear Parents and Students,

I hope this message finds you all enjoying the summer and getting ready for an awesome new school year!  My name is Mr. Ortiz and I look forward to being your Math Acceleration Teacher this year.  I want to take a moment to introduce myself and share a bit about what you can expect in our math class.

About Me: This is starting my 4^th year teaching Math Acceleration at Lopez Middle School.  I’m married to my wonderful Wife Dahlia for 38 years.  We have four outstanding Kids all grown up, and our Super Pup Lil Boot Scoot.  When I’m not in the classroom, you might find me going to the movies with my Wife, hanging out with the Kids and cooking awesome food on the cast iron skillets, and of course going fishing. 

Our Classroom Focus: This year, our Math Acceleration journey will emphasize math vocabulary, number sense, math concepts, problem-solving and critical thinking skills to help you be successful in Mathematics.  Did you know that Mathematics is a Universal Language, that each profession requires some level of mathematical ability, and you use math every day in real life.  My passion for Math is matched only by my commitment to helping students develop an appreciation and deep understanding of Math.  Also, did you know that Math is an acronym for Mistakes are Allowed To Happen.  It is OK to make mistakes, and with a growth mind set we learn from the mistakes.  Note there are no perfect mathematicians
