Mrs. Lewis
Kathryn Lewis is very excited to be joining the Lopez Choir Family this year! She is from San Antonio and graduated with a Bachelors of Music Education, magna cum laude, from Louisiana State University in 2003. Mrs. Lewis was thankful to attend LSU on a full academic music scholarship. She was named the “most outstanding” Junior for the school of music in 2002. Throughout her time at LSU and beyond she has enjoyed countless performance opportunities in choral ensembles, opera productions, musicals, and more!
Mrs. Lewis began her choir teaching career in NEISD at Barbara Bush Middle School in 2003 alongside choir director, Dianna Jarvis, and quickly found her passion for teaching middle school singers. During her time at Bush, choir students built lifetime memories and friendships and enjoyed musical success beyond their years. Many students earned chairs in TMEA Region 12 Honors Choirs, “superior” ratings in solo/ensemble competitions and consecutive sweepstakes in UIL concert and sight reading contests. In 2005, the Barbara Bush Advanced Treble Choir had the prestigious honor of performing as an invited ensemble for the nationally renowned TMEA Convention.
After Mrs. Lewis welcomed her first daughter into the world in 2006, she transitioned into private voice teaching at Bush. Students in her voice studio displayed tremendous growth and functioned as leaders within the choral program. In 2018, she added Lopez Middle School to her private voice studio and enjoyed teaching privately until May 2023. After a year at Great Hearts Western Hills Upper School, she is looking forward to coming back “home” this year to continue her love for teaching middle school hearts and minds at Lopez. Mrs. Lewis is also an affiliate of TMEA and TCDA.
Mrs. Lewis is married to Neil Lewis, a Humanities and Peace and Conflict Studies professor at Northwest Vista and they have three wonderful children. Claire is a recent graduate from O’Connor High School and will be attending Northwest Vista. Eden is a sophomore at O’Connor and Halif is a 7th grader at Stevenson. They also enjoy their sweet kitties, Mr. Hyde and Wemby. She loves coffee, performing musicals at Zion Theatre Group (ZTG) with her family, enjoying nature and creating memorable moments with her family and friends.
