The elementary orchestra program is an enrichment Fine Arts program offered by North East ISD, and is one which is being taken advantage of by more and more students. Children who play an instrument learn self-discipline and learn cooperation with others. Playing a string instrument puts students into a worthwhile activity and gives them something fun and interesting to do while at the same time teaching them the enjoyment of music as a lifelong appreciation.

Instruments: 

Your child can choose either the violin, viola, cello, double bass, or harp. Parents will  need  to  rent  or  purchase  an  instrument  for their  child. Music  stores  in our  area  that  carry  string  instruments  for  rent  or  to  buy  are  listed  below.

We  strongly  recommend  that  you  DO  NOT  purchase  an  instrument  off  the  Internet  or  from  pawn  shops. Because  these  instruments  are  inexpensive,  they  are  usually  of  poor  quality,  and  you  may  spend  more  money  trying  to  fix  the  instrument so  that  it  is  playable  for  your  child. These instruments  also  have  a  tendency  to  get out  of tune frequently  and  this  can  be  very  discouraging  for  the  student.

Harp Students: 

Students interested in learning the harp will join the harp class, offered at Reagan HS in the orchestra room from 3:30-4:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays. Parent transportation is required. For more information, email Mr. Sharplin at nsharp@neisd.net
