Ms. Carolyn Starkweather

This marks my 20th year as a middle school teacher.   I started out at Tejeda, then was moved over to Bush in 2008.

I am an avid reader, enjoying a variety of genres.   My favorite genre is science fiction and my favorite author is Ray Bradbury.

In my younger days, I was quite an adventurer, having climbed Mt. Rushmore twice (it was a guided tour for park workers only, which tells you I worked at the park) and having driven 30 miles further north in Canada than the road goes (it was winter and we drove across a frozen lake!)

For college, I started out at Houston Community College, then transfered to Texas Tech with a BA in Telecommunications and a Minor in Ancient Greek.   I continued my education at Texas Tech with a MA in Classical Languages and Literature.   I then spent several years doing doctoral level work at Indiana University in Classical Languages and Literatures with a minor in Comparative Literature.   For a variey of reasons, I decided to put the doctoral work on hold and become a middle school teacher.   This was the best decision I made because I love working with middle schoolers.

The decision to move back to Texas was also an easy one, and I feel lucky to have landed in NEISD.
