Application Process
All interested substitute applicants must complete an online profile and specific application accessed via the Job Listings webpage. A limited number of computers are available in the lobby of the Richard A. Middleton Education Center (RAMEC) located at 8961 Tesoro Drive, Suite 200, San Antonio, TX 78217.
To find Substitute openings, use the search boxes on the right-hand side of the Job Listings page (or the "Filter" button, if you're on a phone or tablet) and use the "Work-Type" drop-down to select "Substitute-S1". Then click "Search Jobs" or "Filter".
For assistance with the online application, please view the External Applicant User Guide which will provide step-by-step instructions on how to register and apply.
Applicants will need to meet the minimum qualification requirements (outlined below), as well as complete and clear fingerprinting* prior to being considered for employment. Incomplete applications will not be processed.
*Applicant will be required to pay a non-refundable fee for fingerprinting.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
In addition to the online application process, candidates must meet and comply with the requirements below.

Teacher
Application Type: Substitute Certified or Not Certified
Minimum Requirements
- Provide an official college transcript with at least 60 college hours completed
- Identify a minimum of two (2) current professional references (one reference must be from a current/former supervisor)

Paraprofessional (clerical or instructional assistants)
Application Type: Substitute Paraprofessional
Minimum Requirements:
- Provide a copy of high school diploma or GED
- Identify a minimum of two (2) current professional references (One reference must be from a current/former supervisor)

Registered Nurse (RN)
Application Type: Substitute Certified
Mininimum Requirements:
- Provide an official college transcript with degree awarded
- Provide a copy of current RN license
- Identify a minimum of two (2) current professional references (One reference must be from a current/former supervisor)

Counselor
Application Type: If you are interested in long-term counselor jobs only, you do not complete a specific application, however you must complete an online profile.
If you are interested in substitute teacher and long-term counselor, complete a Substitute Certified application.
Mininimum Requirements:
- Provide an official college transcript with degree awarded
- Provide a copy of current school counseling certification
- Identify a minimum of two (2) current professional references (One reference must be from a current/former supervisor)
