NEISD Student Teaching & Observation District Guidelines
Thank you for your interest in completing your student teacher/field experience placement in North East Independent School District. North East ISD supports teacher certification programs which require the completion of classroom observation hours. We support these programs in the belief that by allowing access into our schools and classrooms, participants have an opportunity to gain valuable experience toward their professional development as a teacher.

Current NEISD Employees Instructions

Student Observer (16 hrs or less)
Complete the following by the program timelines:
- Employee/Student must notify immediate supervisor of the request to complete classroom observations/field experience for program
- Read and agree to NEISD Guidelines
- Notify the HR NEISD New Talent and Evaluation Department through email at studentplacements@neisd.net of your request which should include the following:
- What campus are you currently employed at?
- What is the name of the certification/preparation program?
- What certification area are you seeking?
- What are your grade/subject level preference(s)? Please be specific and list in order of preference
- How many hours does the program require?
- List 4 campuses in order of preference
- Specify the timeframe in which the hours will be completed
- Once approved, the student will be notified by email by NEISD
- Employee/Student must notify immediate supervisor of the request to complete classroom observations/field experience for program

Field Experience (17 hrs or more)
Complete the following by the program timelines:
- Notify immediate supervisor of request
- Read and agree to NEISD Guidelines
- Log into Employee Center and apply as an Internal Candidate for the "Fall 2023 - Field Experience" posting (Job ID # 25169)
- Student shall receive approval notification from the University Placement Coordinator

Student/Clinical Teachers
Complete the following by the program timelines:
- Employee/Student must notify the immediate supervisor of the request to complete student teaching and also contact the Human Resources Department via email at studentplacements@neisd.net or via phone call at (210) 407-0484.
- Read and agree to NEISD Guidelines
- Log into Employee Center and apply as an Internal Candidate for the "Fall 2023 - Student Teacher/Clinical Teacher" posting (Job ID # 25171)
- Student shall receive approval notification from the University Placement Coordinator
- Attend required Student Teacher Informational Session
- Employee/Student must notify the immediate supervisor of the request to complete student teaching and also contact the Human Resources Department via email at studentplacements@neisd.net or via phone call at (210) 407-0484.

Intern/Practicum
Complete the following by the program timelines:
- Notify immediate supervisor of request
- Read and agree to NEISD Guidelines
- Log into Employee Center and apply as an Internal Candidate for the "Fall 2023 - Practicum/Intern Student/Candidate" posting (Job ID # 25170)
- Email the appropriate District Department Coordinator to request an internship placement:

Nurses - Emma Kelly, Assistant Director of Health Services (ekelly6@neisd.net) - Student shall receive approval notification from the University Placement Coordinator
- Notify immediate supervisor of request
External Candidates Instructions

Student Observer (16 hrs or less)
Complete the following by the program timelines:
- Complete an online Student Observer History Record Check through the Volunteer Program
- Once the background check is cleared, the student will receive an email with a volunteer identification number
- The student should forward the Student Observer Applicant email to the campus principal and request permission to observe at the campus. The email serves as a verification that a background check was completed and cleared
Note: It is the principal's decision to approve or deny the request
- Complete an online Student Observer History Record Check through the Volunteer Program

Field Experience (17 hrs or more)
Complete the following by the program timelines:
- Submit an online application by creating a profile (or login to an existing account) and applying for the "Fall 2023 - Field Experience" posting (Job ID # 25169)
- Complete & sign the Computerized Criminal History Verification Form (CCH) (pdf) and submit to your University Placement Coordinator
- Read and agree to the District's Code of Conduct (pdf) prior to beginning your experience
- Student shall receive approval notification from the University Placement Coordinator
- Submit an online application by creating a profile (or login to an existing account) and applying for the "Fall 2023 - Field Experience" posting (Job ID # 25169)

Student/Clinical Teachers
Complete the following by the program timelines:
- Submit an online application by creating a profile (or login to an existing account) and applying for the "Fall 2023 - Student/Clinical Teacher" posting (Job ID # 25171)
- Complete & sign the Computerized Criminal History Verification Form (CCH) (pdf) and submit to your University Placement Coordinator
- Student shall receive approval notification from the University Placement Coordinator
- Attend required Student Teacher Orientation
Note: Student Teacher Orientation must be completed prior to working with students - Attend Student Teacher Informational Session
- Submit an online application by creating a profile (or login to an existing account) and applying for the "Fall 2023 - Student/Clinical Teacher" posting (Job ID # 25171)

- Student shall receive approval notification from the University Placement Coordinator
- Attend required Student Teacher / Intern Practicum Orientation

Instructions for Placement Coordinators
1. Review District Guidelines for Field Experience, Student Teaching and Practicum
2. Complete and gather the following required forms and submit them, along with your program description, to studentplacements@neisd.net
a. Program Profile NOTE: Please designate a single contact person
c. Student Teacher/Intern Agreement NOTE: Only required for student teacher and practicum placements. Human Resources will provide the template upon request.
d. Computerized Criminal History Verification Form (CCH) (pdf) NOTE: This step is not required for candidates that are also current NEISD employees
3. Review Program Timelines to assist us in accommodating requests in an efficient and timely manner
