NEISD Elementary program wins national award

Sonido group

Congratulations to Roan Forest Elementary School music teacher Matthew Trevino, teaching partner Danielle Ortiz and the Sonido program!

They have just won the Advocacy in Action Award from Music for All. Music for All is a national non-profit that aims to ensure every child across America has access and opportunity to participate in music-making in their scholastic environment.

“Music For All does an amazing job providing life changing musical opportunities for music students around the country,” said Trevino. “It is truly amazing to know that the work we have been doing is helping break the mold and inspiring other elementary programs to find their own voice.”

The Sonido program at Roan Forest is a high-energy percussion ensemble made up of fourth and fifth-graders. They have collaborated with performers from around the world and have been invited to perform at big events like the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Conference and San Antonio Spurs games.

Congratulations on the national recognition!

And thank you for helping our students fall in love with music #theNEISDway
