Ms. Mendez

Ms. Mendez teaches 6th grade Math, and has taught at IKE since 2018. Ms. Mendez graduated from St. Mary's University with a Bachelor's Degree in mathematics and a minor in Spanish. Ms. Mendez also received a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Ms. Mendez, why do you love teaching?

I love teaching because it is a very rewarding occupation. I love motivating students to come out of their comfort zones and getting them to believe in themselves. It is rewarding to see a student who "hates" math change their mind and begin to appreciate it.

How do you create a welcoming environment for all?

I create a welcoming environment for all by allowing everyone to use their voice in my classroom and acknowledging the rights of every student. No idea is "too dumb" and no mistake is "stupid" because mistakes are part of the learning process.

How will you communicate and be accessible to your students and parents?

I will be communicating with students and parents via email and Google Voice.

What do you like to do? What inspires you?

I like to watch movies with my family. I enjoy going hiking, bowling, and fishing. I am inspired by those around me who care about others, who are kind, and people who aren't afraid to stand up for what they believe in.
