Mrs. Monica Hughes

I am incredibly grateful as I embark on my 13th year in education. This journey has been nothing short of amazing, as I have always aspired to be a teacher. Stepping into Eisenhower, I am reminded of the days when I worked as a substitute teacher here. I often find myself wishing for my very own classroom on this campus! It's truly remarkable to see that I am now living my dreams. Sharing my days with these wonderful students has brought some of the most fulfilling moments into my life. It's a joyful experience to see them explore and learn, sometimes allowing us to rediscover the sense of wonder we had as children ourselves. This will be my 5th year in a row to be an IKE parent as well, and I have to say my kids love this school! They love the teachers, and they love getting up to go to school every day. That is the best thing, because it makes it so easy for me to feel confident that we are in great hands.  We really are One Family One Heart!

Remember, we should always keep reaching for the stars!

I am a proud Uvalde Alumni and a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio, where I cheered and earned my degree in English with a concentration in Creative Writing.

My husband, Alan Hughes, is also a part of the NEISD community as an employee at Roosevelt High School. He's an NEISD Alumni, a Churchill State Soccer Champion, and a graduate of Texas State University. Prior to joining NEISD, he worked in Uvalde in 2013, where we met. We are excited that our children are attending NEISD schools and following in his footsteps. Our eldest daughter, Ysabella Cecilia, is in Varsity Theatre, a sophomore at Churchill! Go Chargers! Yliz Adelina is at IKE going into 7th grade!  – Go Generals!  Charles Santiago, is about to turn 8  and is a 2nd grader at Castle Hills Elementary.Go Roadrunners! David Leonel is now joining our NEISD family at Castle Hills Elementary going into Kindergarden.  Our family holds a deep love for NEISD, and we are eagerly looking forward to an exceptional new academic year – Go 2024-25!!
