Mrs. Cabeza

Hello, my name is Bonnie Cabeza and I am entering my 11th year in education!  I teach 7th grade ELAR (both Honors and Regular) at Lopez Middle School. I was born and raised in Durham, NC and was therefore conditioned to be a huge college basketball fan (go Duke!).  I attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI, and graduated with a BA in Psychology and a minor in Criminal Justice.  My intention was to go on to law school, but I decided instead to join Teach For America, where I fell in love with the field of education.  I completed two years with Teach For America in San Antonio teaching 6th grade ELAR, and then moved to Houston, where I spent  five years continuing to teach ELAR and then as the school's Literacy Specialist.  After five years, I returned to San Antonio with my husband, our two young boys, and our three dogs.  In April 2020, we were blessed to welcome a baby girl to our family.  In my free time, I love to read, paint, run, visit coffee shops, watch football, and spend time with my family.  This year, in addition to teaching, I will be going back to school to obtain my Master's of Education from Schreiner University in Kerrville, TX.  Wish me luck!
