Mr. Tolliver

Darryl Tolliver is the orchestra director at Nimitz/STEM Middle School. He received his Bachelor of Music in Music Education at the University of Texas at San Antonio in the fall of 2013. Mr. Tollivers primary instrument is the viola and he studied under the instruction of Allison Dawkins, Emily Watkins Freudigman, Dr. Jennifer Cahill-Clark and Courtney Filner.

Before joining Nimitz as the orchestra director, he worked as a camp councilor, coach and admin for SMI Summer Music Institute at the University of Texas at San Antonio as well as the Sequoia Chamber Music Workshop at Humboldt State University in Humboldt, California as a councilor, coach and theory teacher. He also worked as an assistant in the University of Incarnate Word Improvisation Workshop, NISD 5th Grade String instructor, studio recording musician, YOSA Mas mentor teacher and YOSA private instructor/clinician and private lesson instructor teaching home and studio lessons with his youngest student at 3 years old and oldest at 74. 

He's also an experienced orchestral musician. In college playing with the UTSA Symphony Orchestra, The UTSA Chamber Orchestra, The UTSA Opera Orchestra, Incarnate Word Community Orchestra, San Antonio Mozart Festival Orchestra, The Texas Baroque Ensemble, Mid Texas Symphony and San Angelo Symphony. Traveling with the UTSA Symphony Orchestra and performing around Italy and Mexico. 

He continues to perform with the Victoria Symphony and Corpus Christi Symphony Orchestra.

Hobbies include sewing, gardening, drawing, rock collecting and reading (historical fiction).
