These Johnson High School students are part of a cultural outreach program where they peer-tutor other students in subjects like English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Algebra, Geometry, Calculus and History. What makes it unique is that they tutor these students in their native languages including English, Spanish, French, Cantonese, Mandarin, Japanese, Portuguese and Korean. The tutored students get a better understanding of the subjects and can keep returning when they need extra help. These students give up time before and after school twice a week to do this. They have planned AP reviews and SAT prep sessions as well. They advertise all over school to make sure everyone knows about the opportunity. It’s been great for everyone as both tutors and tutored students have made friends and lasting connections.
