As you know, we are facing an unprecedented need for substitutes across the country in the wake of the pandemic. After the District placed a call out to the greater San Antonio community for substitutes, a small percentage responded to help, and an even smaller percentage are answering the call regularly. Since the beginning of the school year, these dedicated substitutes have worked 90% or more out of the total number of work days for the 2021-2022 school year. They provide coverage and support during the school day to maintain the daily functions at our campuses. They help prepare lesson plans and coordinate with campus staff to ensure instructional time is not lost. During the height of the pandemic, they were instrumental in ensuring instruction stayed on track for our students and we are grateful that they answered the call.
