Shawna is one of eight Instructional Interventionist teachers in NEISD to achieve two very intensive certifications in an effort to better support her students at Roan Forest Elementary School. She completed training to become a Certified Academic Language Therapist and a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist. This alone requires 200 instructional hours and 1,000 clinical hours. To accomplish this, she offered free private tutoring to students over the summer among other things. She has held many hats including Response to Intervention Coordinator, Roan Forest Administration Leadership Team member, Measuring Academic Performance (MAP) Point of Contact for Roan Forest, Lighthouse Action Team Member, Instructional Interventionist Teacher and Campus Improvement Committee member. Her steadfast commitment to her students can be seen in her drive to help in any way she can.
