About Us
Serving Grades 9–12
WE ARE MAC
MacArthur High School was the first high school in the North East Independent School District. It was established in 1950 as North East Rural High School, but was later renamed after Douglas MacArthur in the 1958-1959 school year.
The school's athletic and other organizations have seen many successes with district, regional, and state appearances and championships. Mac has achieved notable recognition in recent years for its UIL Academic teams, with both teams and individuals placing at the state level in science, current events, and social studies competitions, and a 2007 TMSCA State Championship in science.
Mission
MacArthur High School’s mission is to ensure all students achieve grade level academic excellence.
Vision
Our vision is to be a top 10 high school in San Antonio within the next three years.
Education Approach
Through engagement in positive campus culture and meeting high standards of academic excellence, students will gain the knowledge and skills necessary for life after graduation, whether it be college, career, or military focused.

The MAC Difference!
-
The bronze relief of the face of General Douglas MacArthur utters the words "I shall return" and "Duty, Honor, Country". Originally adorning the front of the auditorium, the relief was paid for by the MacArthur PTA and dedicated on October 19, 1977.
During the reconstruction of MacArthur H.S. in the early 2000s, the relief was removed from the auditorium and installed in a new archway that overlooks the entrance of the school. In 2020, the MacArthur PTSA paid for the installation of blue lights to illuminate the archway at night and continue the tradition of blue lights on campus. The combination of the two serves as a long standing reminder of the commitment of our MacArthur PTSA to our students, staff, and community.
-
The MacArthur Courtyard serves as the cultural hub of our campus, home to numerous outdoor events including pep rallies. The courtyard is dedicated in honor of Mr. Amedee Richard, the administrator who oversaw the rebuilding of MacArthur High School in the early 2000s
-
A gift from the Class of 2009, the MacArthur Memory Hall celebrates the history of our campus including exhibits of Douglas MacArthur, senior class panoramic photos, and countless memorabilia honoring our Brahma past.
-
Brahma March celebrates the oldest rivalry within NEISD, MacArthur vs. L.E.E. During the week of the L.E.E. football game, the MacArthur clubs, organizations, and sports line up and parade through the Regency neighborhood. The MacArthur community lines the parade route to cheer on our students and the parade returns to the MacArthur courtyard for a night pep rally.
-
Hosted by the MacArthur PALS organization, Mactoberfest is our annual carnival that takes place before Brahma March. Mac clubs and organizations sponsor food and game booths for everyone to enjoy until it's time to line up for the big parade!
-
The MacArthur High School mascot is Lil' General the Brahma Bull. Lil' General originated as a live mascot but has taken many forms over the years as a costume character to cheer on our students.

Our Cluster
Welcome to the MacArthur Cluster in the North East Independent School District. As a MacArthur High School School student, your child will establish a passion, curiosity, and foundation for life-long learning while nurturing their social and emotional skills. Outside of the classroom, your child can embrace what they love or try something new through diverse clubs, programs and organizations.
Your child will discover even more opportunities at Garner and Driscoll Middle School. As their academic foundation expands in the classroom, their circle of friends and experiences will grow through new opportunities in Athletics, Fine Arts, Student Council, National Junior Honor Society, competitive UIL contests, and more.
At MacArthur High School, your child will excel academically and socially while embracing beloved Brahma traditions with memories that will last a lifetime. Your child has the freedom and support to pursue their passions in a variety of programs, organizations, and clubs – from Athletics to JROTC, Band, Dance, PALS, Photography, UIL, and much more. MacArthur is proud to be the only Dual Language high school in NEISD with thriving bilingual, bi-literate, and bicultural students. MacArthur is also home to NEISD’s unique magnet program MacUP. These future educators get a head start as a UTSA student and can graduate with more than 50 hours of college credit that goes toward their teaching degree.
There’s so much to discover in the MacArthur cluster. Thank you for choosing NEISD.
