Big dreams at Cibolo Green

Cibolo Green Elementary School knows who their ‘customers’ are. And their voice matters.

While teachers and staff work hard to serve the families in their community, it’s important to check in with students about their experience on campus.

That’s where the Jr. Lighthouse Team comes into play.

This group is made up of first, second, third, fourth and fifth grade students who serve a two-year term. This leadership opportunity offers the chance to provide valuable feedback to campus staff and administrators on a variety of topics.

Co-sponsors Kacie Hrywnak, Stephanie Summers and Anaiah Smith meet once a month with the Jr. Lighthouse Team. While they help navigate the meeting, the students truly lead the way with bright ideas and initiatives that can impact the entire school.

“They have such big hearts and so many great ideas,” said Hrywnak. “We ask them for ideas about how we can give back to the campus, discuss topics they feel we need to address and go over community outreach ideas.”

Recently, the Jr. Lighthouse Team helped spearhead the campus holiday donation drive. After working hard to spread the word on campus, they spent time gathering toys and tallying up the final count.

Spreading kindness is important to the kids too. It’s not uncommon to find them writing Valentine’s, holiday cards and thank you notes to teachers.

“I really like learning from them,” said Smith. “I think it’s really cool to watch them lead and hear what they think about things.”

Growing the next generation of leaders #theNEISDway.
