Teacher Feature: Encino Park's Michelle Kaman

Encino Park Elementary School teacher Michelle Kaman loves her job. But to her it isn’t as much as a job as it is a calling. Kaman spent a career in the business world before listening to her gut and becoming a teacher.

“My husband would say, ‘You are so much of a happier person as a teacher,’” said Kaman. “I think this is something I was meant to do. This is where I am supposed to be. It’s just a great feeling. I can’t imagine doing anything else.”

Her students would agree. Watching Kaman interact with her students is exciting. They are laughing and engaged. She listens to stories, but also keeps them on tasks. Teachers live for those “lightbulb moments” and in Mrs. Kaman’s class, there are plenty.

“Oh, those are the best. When you see that lightbulb go off and they go, ‘Oh, I get it.’ That’s what we work for.”

Kaman fell in love with North East ISD well before she worked for our District. She was an NEISD parent, raising four kids through NEISD. She remembers the teachers who made an impact on her kids and works every day to make that same impact on Encino Park students.

“I want to see each of my students succeed in life, period,” said Kaman. “And I hope by being a teacher here at Encino Park, I'm kind of paying it forward a little bit because I know the quality education my children received all the way up through high school. So, I just feel like that's my part of this community. It's my turn to pay it forward.”
