Churchill student helps other COVID-19 survivors

Abby and her Father

There are few words more worrisome right now than, “You are positive for COVID-19.” That is, of course, unless those words are spoken to your father, then it’s downright scary.

That was the reality for Churchill High School senior, Abby Diamond. Back in April, her father tested positive. He went to the hospital; she and the rest of her family went into quarantine. The disease took a terrible hold of him and he was put on a ventilator for weeks.

“My dad is doing a lot better than he was, but he’s still dealing with some side effects of the disease,” said Diamond. “He’s had physical therapy and many doctors’ visits.  He now sees a cardiologist, pulmonologist, and neurologist (he didn’t before). He still struggles daily in his recovery.”

With hopefully the scariest part of all this behind them, Abby is working to help others dealing with COVID-19.

“I’m doing this because I know firsthand how hard it is to have a loved one fighting COVID-19, and I want to help others,” said Diamond.

She has set up a website called The COVID Survivors Group. She is using her family’s story and experience to raise awareness and collect items and donations for families dealing with the coronavirus.

“We need cases of water, Gatorade, masks, blankets, magazines, hand sanitizer, and anything else they think will help.”

She’s also selling “survivor shirts” to raise money to help purchase much-needed supplies for families.
