Scenes from the Refugee Fashion Show at the Welcome Center

Ready for the runway!

The Welcome Center at NEISD recently hosted a one-of-a-kind ‘Refugee School Impact Fashion Show.’

Every dress was handsewn and stitched with care by women who have been taking sewing classes for the past five months at the Welcome Center. Models walked a runway as their designers and guests looked on, taking pride in their work and the exceptional craftsmanship on display.

Staff members and students in our North East Transition Services (NETS) program volunteered as models. Team members from our Kids' Involvement Network (KIN) also volunteered to provide childcare during the event.

The Refugee School Impact Program assists refugee and asylee students and their families as they settle in our schools and communities. We offer our families registration support, assessment testing, translation services and more to set them up for success as soon as they arrive. We also offer immersive adult learning opportunities, such as English as a Second Language (ESL) classes.

We also provide exceptional tutoring support that enhances English language proficiency, aids academic excellence, and fosters essential social skills. There's also hands-on learning with the implementation of CHEF and Code Ninja training courses.

Check out the Welcome Center to learn more.
