Holiday gift wrapping with purpose

Got gifts? North East Transition Services (NETS) students are wrapping gifts for NEISD employees at Central Office all week. The annual service project is back on this year and is providing a lot more than the convenience of expertly wrapped presents.

“The whole concept is really to give them the opportunity for a service project with a focus on employability,” said NETS Transition Specialist Shauna Abrego. “They are practicing the skills of taking orders and accomplishing their task.”

NETS is a community-based program for NEISD students with disabilities who have completed their high school program and are seeking the support skills necessary for adult life. A task like wrapping gifts offers valuable practice and a chance to flex those life skills.
