October 26, 2016 - El Dorado Elementary School Cuts Ribbon on New SPARK

The El Dorado Elementary School community came together on October 26, 2016 for a great SPARK celebration.

Dr. Brian Gottardy, Superintendent of Schools of North East ISD speaks at the SPARK celebration.

The El Dorado Elementary School community came together on October 26, 2016 for a great celebration. They held a ribbon cutting ceremony for their new SPARK park with students, staff and neighbors. This park is unique as it is for the entire community, not just for the students at El Dorado.

“The SPARK program is a partnerships between the City of San Antonio, San Antonio Sports and North East ISD to develop public school grounds into neighborhood parks,” said Dr. Brian G. Gottardy, Superintendent of Schools.

The El Dorado SPARK park features two soccer fields with goals. Spark funds also provided for a new sun shade for its amphitheater that the school will use as an outdoor classroom. Thanks to the District’s 2015 bond program, the park will also feature a walking track next year.

On hand for the celebration was City Councilman Mike Gallagher and George Block from San Antonio Sports.

SPARK parks will be open to the public from sunrise to sunset on Saturdays, Sundays, and school holidays. The park will also be open during the week after school at 6:30 p.m. until sunset.

El Dorado is NEISD’s fifth SPARK park, with another planned at Woodstone Elementary School in the spring.
