The 2015 Bond Program included funding to upgrade the West Avenue Elementary School facilities into a District Pre-K Academy. The project scope of work was primarily developed to provide instructional facilities which met all City of San Antonio building code requirements for the operation of a Pre-K facility. The 2015 Bond provided for construction of the following program elements: (1) installation of a building fire sprinkler system throughout the main academic building (both floors); (2) upgraded classrooms restrooms to support Pre-K students; (3) equipped large multi-use restrooms with necessary support items to support Pre-K use; (4) painted the interior of the school; (5) reconfigured administrative-counseling-clinic areas to support construction of a secure entry vestibule; (6) provided selected interior modifications to address building code safety requirements for Pre-K use including installation of handrails at 2nd floor stair landings and 1st floor ramps; (7) provided new door hardware to comply with accessibility requirements; (8) provided new Pre-K playground equipment and fall protection at the playground area; (9) upgraded campus perimeter fencing to create a secure environment; (10) provided new room signage; (11) installed a new digital marquee; and (12) provided new classroom and library furniture to support Pre-K students. The Farm to Market classroom area renovations were funded by a City of San Antonio Grant ($187K). This project renovated two standard classrooms into two interactive themed classrooms. The first classroom consists of a farm theme with a corral, chicken coop, barn and a road leading into the market classroom which includes a Café and supermarket. The project also included a greenhouse geodesic dome to grow vegetables in an outdoor environment.
