BS - Astronomy and Physics

Sarah Stoebner

Hello, my name is Sarah Stoebner (Stayb-ner). I have always been passionate about Astrophysics and Engineering. Originally, I'm from Sioux Falls, SD. I earned my BS in Astronomy at University of Hawaii at Hilo. After graduating, I worked as a telescope operator for 8 years in Hawaii, including the Smithsonian Submillimeter Array. At the same time, I was in the Hawaii Army National Guard for 6 years, working as a Black Hawk Helicopter mechanic. To be closer to family, I moved to San Antonio, where I have been for 9 years now. With a passion for animals, I became a dog trainer! This is where I realized I love teaching. Eventually, a student told me I should teach. I taught Math for four years and last year, during my first year at DATA, I was able to teach my dream subject of Physics. I'm very excited about being in my second year of teaching Physics. Now, as a teacher and having experienced many male-dominated careers, I am very passionate about making sure women and minorities see that any path is for them and I want to help guide them wherever that may be.
