Elementary Education certified with Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi E.S.L. certification B.B.A. in finance with Texas A&M University

Mrs. Karen Pennington

I love teaching 4th grade at Cibolo Green Elementary School! Each child in my classroom is important to me. I truly enjoy getting to know and help each student in my class grow and learn. Fourth grade is a pivotal year. Students become more independent. They start focusing on their peers more. They are at a fantastic age to develop their interests deeper. It is going to be a great year!

I strongly believe that partnering with parents is imperative to a successful year. I am always open to emails with question and concerns. I like to provide frequent communication with parents. I look forward to working closely with the parents of my students. We can make a bigger difference together.

Education and why I became a teacher - I received a BBA in Finance at Texas A&M University in College Station. After working a few years, I decided that finance was not my true calling. I have always felt I had a gift and desire for teaching others and truly enjoy seeing people learn. I attended Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi to become a certified Elementary Teacher with an emphasis in math. I enjoy teaching all subjects, so that is why I became an elementary school teacher.

Teaching Experience - I have 28 years of teaching experience. This will be my 13th year with NEISD. I taught 16 years in Corpus Christi, TX. I have taught 9 years in 1st grade, 2 years in 2nd grade, 1 year in 3rd grade, 7 years in 4th grade, and 9 years in 5th grade. Since I have taught grades 1st - 5th, I have a strong understanding of foundational skills and the skills coming up. I have been at Cibolo Green Elementary since it opened. I love the community and the students! Together we grow CHAMPIONS!

Family - My family and I moved here in 2009. My husband has recently retired. My daughter, Donna, graduated from Johnson High School. Donna was involved mostly in dance, theater, and Young Life. She jgraduated from Texas A&M University in 2020 with a degree in Human Resources. Whoop! Just got married this summer and now lives in Austin. I have 2 older step-children who live in other cities. The oldest, Cliff Pennington Jr., finished an 11 year career as a major league baseball player. He just got hired as the Assistant Coach to Dallas Baptist University. His wife and 3 children are moving to Dallas with him. My step-daughter, Nicole, lives in Corpus Christie with her 3 children. Some family members have dyslexia. I have worked extremely hard to encourage and teach them after school. I have a special place in my heart for students with dyslexia and know that they can have a successful future! Sometimes the struggles that we go through make us stronger than we can imagine.
